Greetings from the Board of Trustees of the Biological Stain Commission. This is the first of what we hope will be monthly newsletters regarding activities of the Commission.
At its meeting in November, the Board identified areas to focus on in 2025. These Include
- Revamping the editorial board of Biotechnic and Histochemistry, and getting caught up on the backlog of submissions that built up after the death of Steve Nettleton, the journal’s longtime editor.
- Redesigning the BSC web site to bring it up to modern standards and better address the needs of vendors, members, and the general public.
- Plan for the 2025 meeting.
- In conjunction with the web redesign project, streamline the workflow in the certification process.
- Explore and implement new services for members
In this newsletter, we will focus on the first three of these.
Biotechnic and Histochemistry
At the November meeting, Bradley Turner was named to be Editor in Chief, to be supported by Associate Editor Richard Horobin, Assistant Editors Sheila Criswell, Maged Henary and Lacey McNally, and Statistical Consultant Brian Finkleman. Subsequently, this group has been hard at work with our publisher Taylor and Francis, with the goal of catching up on submissions by March 31. As part of that effort, the last two issues of volume 99 (2024) have been published.0
Web Redesign
At the November meeting, a Web Redesign Committee was appointed, consisting of Bruce Cochrane (chair), Carol Bain, Chad Fagan, and John Kiernan to guide this project. After discussions with several web design companies, we entered into an agreement with Mason Digital of Rochester NY, with the goal of having a new site deployed by mid-May, when we would like to open registration for the next Annual Meeting.
Annual Meeting Planning
We decided to hold the meeting in Atlanta in late October or early November, Maged Henary will be the local coordinator for the meeting and will lead the planning process. Information about it will be published on the existing BSC website, so check back often for updates.
With all of this going on, how can you help?
- Stay abreast of Biotechnic and Histochemistry. This is a landmark year, in that it is the 100th year of continuous publication. We are always looking for reviewers, and if you have results that are begging to be published, consider submitting a manuscript.
- Assist with the Web site design. We are asking both that you contribute your ideas regarding the design of the new website and that you consider how you can contribute to the site in the future. Please communicate any ideas you have with Bruce Cochrane or Chad Fagan
- Renew your membership. Stay connected and continue enjoying the benefits of being a valued member.
- Volunteer to help. On our new website, we hope to have a centralized way to do so, but in the meantime, especially if you can assist with the web site or as a manuscript reviewer, feel free to let us know by responding to this email.
So again, thank you for your interest and support of the BSC!
