While it’s only been two weeks since I last sent out a newsletter, there are exciting developments regarding our website and our annual meetingto share with our membership and the general public. So here goes.
Our new website is live! We’ve been promising this for months, but now it’s actually here. The url biologicalstaincommission.org remains the same, so any bookmarks you have saved will still take you to the BSC home page (or any other page on the site that you have bookmarked). Some of the highlights of the new site are as follows.
- A modern look and feel. Our old site was originally designed around 15 years ago, and needless to say, a lot has happened in the area of web design and function since then. Thanks to our partners at Mason Digital in Rochester, we now have a site that conforms with modern standards of appearance, accessibility, and compatibility with mobile devices.
- Online forms for obtaining quotes for laboratory services and submitting samples for assay are currently under development. Our laboratory manager Chad Fagan has been advocating for this for several years, and again the folks at Mason Digital are working with us to make it a reality.
- Improvements to the Annual Meeting registration and poster submission processes. The registration form has been streamlined, so that some some fields are conditional, that is that what appears on you form is dictated by choices you make. For example, if you are a students registrant, the reduced registration fee will automatically be selected.

The Annual Meeting in Atlanta is less than one month away. We have extended the registration dealine to October 10, so if you haven’t done so already, please register right away. We especially encourage students and postdocs/residents to submit abstracts. In early October, we will be reviewing submissions and select two whose authors we will invite to give oral presentations. And when you do prepare your abstract, be sure to use the abstract template we provide. Doing so makes compilation of our program much more straightforward. The meeting program can be found here.
